Lisa DiRenzo DO
Functional Medicine / Bioidentical Hormone Replacement

Dr. DiRenzo ( or” Dr. Lisa “ as many of her patients refer to her) has been practicing medicine for over 30 years. She became a Board Certified Anesthesiologist immediately upon graduating from medical school at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She trained in the Philadelphia area and has practiced here her entire career in order to stay close to her roots and family.

Initially she was drawn to Osteopathic medicine over Allopathic medicine because of its mission to address “the whole person and impact the health and wellbeing of the community”. At that time she had never even heard of Functional Medicine. She has since reaffirmed her commitment to understanding and treating the “whole person” through the Functional medicine platform.

The transition from Anesthesia to Functional Medicine may not seem to be a natural career progression. However, like many of us, a personal health crisis illuminated her path. She found much success and improved health after applying the tenets of functional medicine to her own life. She began researching Functional Medicine and found sound evidence based, physiologic solutions to treating chronic disease. Her research also showed a lack of resources for this type of medicine in her own geographic area. It has become Dr. Lisa’s goal to pursue a practice that could bring Functional medicine to her community.

"She describes her practice as a patient driven collaboration between physician and patient. She takes pride in spending time with her patients , listening to them, reviewing test results in detail and explaining her clinical recommendations. Her Functional Medicine patients are provided an individual protocol utilizing diet, supplements, exercise, stress management and sleep hygiene techniques tailored to their history , symptoms and lab results. Dr. Lisa spends a great deal of time curating these protocols & making sure her patients a heard. But Dr. Lisa always says “ the success of functional medicine is a direct results of the hard work of the patient!” And she respects and encourages that sense of motivation!

Dr. Lisa also has several other areas of focus in her practice. She provides Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy( BHRT) , Thyroid Hormone management & IV therapy as well.

The high stress lifestyle, poor diet and lack of exercise that are a huge part of our everyday lives can cause reproductive hormonal decline ( in both men & women), thyroid abnormalities and over all nutritional deficiencies.

It is estimated that both men and women spend an average of 1/3 their lifespan in hormonal decline. And the decline may happen earlier than you might think. This hormonal imbalance often goes untreated in the general public. And the symptoms can be debilitating & negatively impact quality of life. Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy ( Testosterone therapy for men) can address hormonal imbalance & improve quality life.

Likewise thyroid dysfunction can go undetected as well. Often only a TSH or T4 are routinely checked on lab work, but they only tell part of the “thyroid story.” During an initial thyroid consult Dr.Lisa will check a full thyroid panel & nutrient levels that may be effecting thyroid function. Thyroid function is essential to so many bodily systems, it is important to make sure it is in good working condition.

Lastly, we don’t always get the nutritional components we need in our every day diet, or sometimes we just need a quick boost to enhance performance for an event, or we need to boost immunity for travel , or we need support while we are under stress, or we have a chronic condition that may need nutrient & detoxification help over a long course of treatment…..then Dr. Lisa can provide IV therapy.
